This research forms part of a PhD study the ‘High Density Low Rise Sustainable Courtyard Housing for Urban Area’ which aims to examine the potential of using the high density low rise courtyard house form as solution for creating family housing in urban areas that can adapt to changing needs of the users over time.

The objective of the Longitudinal Study part of the research is to find out the relationship between household structure with dwelling type (house, flat or temporary structure) and location (Urban or suburban and rural) in the England and Wales over the period of 40 years of the ONS Longitudinal Study.

The project will use the following census and events data:

  • 1971 Census data
  • 1981 Census data
  • 1991 Census data
  • 2001 Census data
  • 1971 - 2001 Births to LS members
  • The project was approved on 4 February 2009 and is supported by CeLSIUS.
