This project on 'second generation' and British born Arabs living in London asks how young people of Arab descent practise and understand Arab culture in contemporary London. The research also investigates the place of young people of Arab origin in British Multiculturalism, the wider Arab Diaspora and how/if politics in the Middle East have had an impact on the lives of young people. The project also draws upon historical data to help understand the different phases of migration and community development, with particular interest in the demographic weight of British born Arabs in relation to migrants from the Arab world.

The project will use the following census and events data:

  • 1991 Census data
  • 2001 Census data
  • Tbis project was approved on 20 January 2009 and is supported by CeLSIUS.
