Changes since version 2.1 A variable has been derived for National Statistics Socio-economic Classification (NSSec) based on 1991 census occupations coded to SOC90. NSSEC9 has been added to the the LS database for tables ME91,NM91,AM91 and NA91. A Social Class variable has been derived (SCLAS0) based on 2001 Census occupation data coded to SOC90. SCLAS0 has been added to the the LS database for tables ME01,NM01,MM01 and MN01. In addition to the above another Social Class variable (ROSERG0) has been derived based on occupations coded to SOC2000 in the 2001 Census. This will allow comparisons over the full range of censuses included in the LS using socio-economic classification.ROSERG0 has been added to the the LS database for tables ME01,NM01,MM01 and MN01. Several variables have been moved from the standard tables to the x-file tables. Changes since version 2.0 New event registration information added to the LS database has been included in the dictionary Government Office Region (GORCC) has been added to the cancer file for cancer registrations from 2001 onwards. RSS Employment Status has been added to the database for these events for the years 1999 to 2001: deaths, widow(er)hoods, new births, live births to sample mothers, still births to sample mothers and infant deaths to sample mothers. Socio-economic Classification derived using RSS Employment Status and SOC2000 coding of occupations has been added to the database for these events for the years 1999 to 2001: * deaths, widow(er)hoods and infant deaths for deceased (or mother of deceased) and deceased’s husband (or father of deceased), * new births, live births to sample mothers and still births to sample mothers, for mother and father. Information on infant deaths to sample mothers now includes: * ICD10 codes for deaths, * employment status code, * Standard Occupation Classification (2000) for mother and father at birth and death, * Socio-economic Classification (2000) for mother and father at birth. Additional changes to events variables. During the lifetime of the LS there have been many changes to the coding of event registrations. We have reviewed some of this information and added start and end dates to 1488 variable entries in the dictionary. Changes in the way that events information is added to the outputs database (LSLOAD32) means that there is now additional information on missing values. A code of -8 has been added to 797 variables on the database where they would be blank because information was not coded for that period. We have started updating the dictionary with missing values of -7 and -9 that have already been on the database for some time. Version 2.0 Released 1 June 2005 This updated version of the LS Data Dictionary has a considerable number of changes listed below. Changes since version 1.1 There has been a small change to the structure of the data dictionary. Census variables have been split into MAIN variables and CODEDAS variables. This has been done so that variables with a common coding frame, usually those derived from common source, will use the same dictionary information. For example, NINDP0 (industry code for non-members in 2001) is derived from the same Census question as INDP0 (industry code for LS members in 2001) and shares a coding frame. If you examine the dictionary entry for NINDP0 you will now see its variable name and description followed by the dictionary entry for INDP0. The list of tables has been updated to reflect all tables that are currently present in the current analysis database (LSLOAD22) including the restricted tables. The list of tables screen has been changed to show whether variables are present in the data dictionary or not. Where a table is present in the data dictionary, then all variables in the table now have a description. This has meant the addition on a considerable number of new entries. Specifically all variables for the following tables - DHA91, LA91, WD91x, WD81x, PW81x, PW91x, CLLA91, OCC8L, OCC9L, NMOCC8L, NMOCC9L - were added and extra fields for DETH, WDOW, NBIR, SBSM, LBSM. Version 1.1 Released on 24 August 2004 Version 1.1 was produced before the Longitudinal Study was re-launched in September 2001. Version Alpha 1.0 had been in use by 'beta-test' users and computing support officers during the testing of the 2001 Census data in the LS. Version 1.1 addressed all of the 'beta-test issues' raised by these users.
